TORRY QUAY CONTAINMENT CURTAIN INSTALLATION

TORRY QUAY CONTAINMENT CURTAIN INSTALLATION

PROJECT BRIEF To secure supplied brackets to the wharf exterior which would be used to attach a purpose built articulating containment curtain during excavation works.  The brackets were provided by our client and our task was to deploy and install the curtain in situ terminating at each side of the entrance where we had installed the brackets.  Once completed excavation works could commence by onsite contractors with the curtain providing sufficient containment of sediment and potentially pollutive material from entering the main channel.  The images clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of the curtain during excavation works.
RESPONSIBILITIES I was responsible for obtaining dive and hot works permits, all logistics, risk assessment strategy and dive management system.  Skilled welding divers were used for this project and due to the complexity and scope of the containment curtain the dive team were on location for a number of days.
CLIENT MMC Diving Services | Aquatic Engineering
CHALLENGES Principle challenge on this project included shipping and general traffic movements due to its location and proximity to the docks.  In addition, the containment curtain was both vast and heavy requiring the divers to secure it in situ on site.  Hot works operations are inherently high risk but with all such operations, careful planning and management of challenging situations and foreseeable hazards can be correctively overcome.
RISK RATING High Risk
OUTCOME Project completed
