LINCOLN SHEET PILE CUTTING
LINCOLN SHEET PILE CUTTING
PROJECT BRIEF | Phase 2 of this project was to cut underwater using ultrathermic cutting rods burning in excess of 10,000°F at the tip. The sheet sheet piles were installed by the contractor and once piled to the desired depth, each top section was cut at a specified height above bed level. Due to the tidal range at this location some of the cutting works were conducted at low water using oxygen/acetylene therefore maximising our time on this project at all states of tide. Prior to all hot works being commenced, each section of sheet pile was supported from above by crane. |
RESPONSIBILITIES | Project Manager responsible for all subsurface operations including the compilation of the dive management system. I was responsible for compiling the sequence of works and safety procedures for all subsea and hot works operations. |
CLIENT | MMC Diving Services | RS Divers | Ward & Burke Construction Ltd |
CHALLENGES | High energy rivers continually provoke challenging situations. The conditions on this particular project were demanding following heavy persistent rainfall causing the rivers to swell and extreme, sub zero temperatures. The air temperature was so extreme that the regulators froze requiring us to fabricate insulated housings to protect them from the extreme elements. Consideration for my teams welfare in such temperatures always takes precedence and is a contributory factor in the projects successes. |
