RIVER TRENT CONTAINMENT CURTAIN DEPLOYMENT/RECOVERY

RIVER TRENT CONTAINMENT CURTAIN DEPLOYMENT/RECOVERY

PROJECT BRIEF Initial brief was to install a containment curtain for construction works to commence.  Due to the fast flowing nature of this River the curtain had to be secured to the river bed via a number deadweights which comprised of x8 RSJ’s.  Upon completion of works we were contracted in the removal of the curtain, assigned the task to remove the anchor weights and finally the ground chain that was used to keep the curtain in vertical alignment.  The use of both a shoreside crane and ALB’s (air lift bags) were used to complete lifting operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES Project Manager responsible for all subsurface operations including the compilation of the dive management system.  I was responsible for compiling the sequence of works and safety procedures for all subsea operations.
CLIENT MMC Diving Services | RS Divers | Ward & Burke Construction Ltd
CHALLENGES High energy rivers continually provoke challenging situations.  During the installation process, the UK had experienced major rainfall resulting in flooding and reduced visibility.  Overhead operations were also a challenging factor as a crane was used during some of the lifting operations.  Again, good communication between topside, diver and lifting supervisor ensured that this project was completed without injury.
