COMMERCIAL SWIMMING POOL MAINTENANCE

COMMERCIAL SWIMMING POOL MAINTENANCE

PROJECT BRIEF To remove and replace with new, all cracked and broken tiles.  To remove existing poor grout for a 20m section of the pool and replace with new.  With a large section of all tiles bowing from increased water pressure behind the tiles it was deemed too dangerous to drain the pool in the event that the integrity of the remaining tiles may be jeopardised and implode.  Our alternative was to construct a cofferdam creating a “dry zone” for the team to operate within which provided containment of debris and unrestricted working hours as the pool could still be used by the general public.
RESPONSIBILITIES Project Manager | Dive Management System creator | Diver | Pre & post survey, inspection and reporting
CLIENT MMC Diving services for IOW Council
CHALLENGES Pool temperature | Time management/Restricted hours due to pool usage | Specialist materials sought | Public liability | Poor substrate | Dive spread improvisation | Risk of implosion | Suction
RISK RATING Medium Risk
OUTCOME 95% of all tiles were replaced underwater using specialist materials.  All works were carried out via the cofferdam or through the night to ensure minimal disturbance to the pool operating schedule.  Successful project completion led to future on-going maintenance works for all Council owned pools on the island.
