COWES YACHT HAVEN UNDERWATER WELDING & LIFTING OPERATIONS
COWES YACHT HAVEN UNDERWATER WELDING & LIFTING OPERATIONS
PROJECT BRIEF | Tasked to re-weld a number of brackets back onto supporting piles which created a framework for the outer seawall of Cowes Yacht Haven. We designed and fabricated a davit system to raise and support each of the 2.5 ton concrete sections in situ prior to securing back onto the welded brackets. |
RESPONSIBILITIES | I was responsible for initially compiling the non conformance report to the client following the dive teams investigation. I was also responsible for drawing up the dive management system and the sequence of works in order to rectify the issues highlighted in an effort to reinstate the outer seawall. I devised the welding equipment and operating checklist as well as the risk assessments and welding procedures documentation. |
CLIENT | MMC Diving Services | Cowes Yacht Haven |
CHALLENGES | All hot works operations carry an inherent risk, however on this project the added challenge of routine ferry traffic creating wash with a rise and fall differential of 1.0-1.5m required additional procedures to be implemented. Each concrete section was approximately 2.5 ton requiring methodic lifting procedures to be adhered in order to ensure safety was never compromised. |
