SUPERYACHT METALWORK PROJECTS

SUPERYACHT METALWORK PROJECTS

PROJECT BRIEF Initial involvement was specifically related to the office which was under pressure and behind schedule due to a significant number of large projects requiring attention to detail in order to make the fabrication process seamless.  Having an understanding of the detailed projects and a practical mindset I was quickly tasked to operate between the office and the workshop floor in an effort to bring the projects back on track due to skilled staff shortages.
RESPONSIBILITIES I was responsible for the final finishing process for a number of large high value projects for custom super yachts due to my meticulous nature.  I was tasked to operate the metalwork lathe, linishing machines and mill drill.  I was also responsible for checking through the drawings received from the yacht designers for a 145′ ketch, marking the metalworks prior to cutting and welding, final finishing, post works detailing and packaging prior to their dispatch.
CLIENT West Engineering Ltd
CHALLENGES Starting projects that are already behind schedule can often be a challenge, however, they were pulled back on track and dispatched prior to their deadline dates thanks to an “all hands on deck approach”.  Operating new machinery and working with titanium can also pose challenges and notoriously harder to work with than other materials such as aluminium and stainless steel.  The desired final finish depicts the process to be used which can be challenging when making sure that each unit is identical in appearance.
RISK RATING Medium Risk
OUTCOME Projects completed.
