K1 BRITANNIA
PROJECT BRIEF | To work in accordance with strict safety guidelines to align and secure the lifting strops on this British legacy, the yacht Britannia, a replica of the King’s famed racing yacht which was due to be restored by the K1 Britannia team in Cowes on the Isle of Wight. |
RESPONSIBILITIES | Responsible for compiling the Dive Management System to carry out the subsea works for this operation. |
CLIENT | MMC Diving Services | Blade Runner Shipping |
CHALLENGES | The 64 tonne hull took 2 attempts to lift by the Apache floating crane following a miss judgment in her weight calculation. On the 2nd attempt the strops were positioned in a slightly different place and again carefully placed and fastened around her girth. The hull shape made the initial alignment challenging, however with good communication between the diver, topside and lifting supervisor the lift was completed with remarkable success. |
