MV SEA RAIDER SALVAGE
MV SEA RAIDER SALVAGE
PROJECT BRIEF | My company was responsible for the successful recovery of MV Sea Raider from the main channel in the Solent fairway. The vessel sank within minutes of striking a lateral mark finally resting on the seabed at 25m. Our brief was to secure and recover without disruption to the main shipping channel and to stabilise the vessel for towage to Cowes with consideration for routine traffic and the environment. |
RESPONSIBILITIES | Project Manager for the mobilisation and demobilisation of all equipment. Responsible for organising permit to work through VTS. |
CLIENT | Private client |
CHALLENGES | Diving times were heavily restricted by strong currents, poor visibility and shipping movements due to the position of the vessel on the seabed. This salvage operation was one of the most challenging operations we had undertaken at that time both physically and mentally. The vessels stability was greatly compromised due to sustaining major structural damage which required my dive team to remain in a state of readiness for the towage operation back to port. |
