AC45 DIVE SUPPORT AND CRISIS MANAGEMENT

AC45 DIVE SUPPORT AND CRISIS MANAGEMENT

PROJECT BRIEF Tasked to provide diving support to the B.A.R (Ben Ainslie Racing) team during their 2013 multi hull record attempt around the Island in the event of capsize.  My dive team stayed alongside the AC45 during her record attempt and were in a state of readiness to act in the event of a major incident.
RESPONSIBILITIES I was responsible for drawing up the detailed brief to both the divers and the sailing team of the actions that would take place in the event of a serious incident.  The brief included vital information about the vessel, the potential situations that the divers may encounter for a number of different scenarios from inversion to capsize.  I was also responsible for drafting the risk assessment strategies for the dive team to follow in the event of an incident.

CHALLENGES Maintaining a close position to the vessel that was travelling at high speed was a challenge in itself.  With spectator vessels within close proximity, tidal factors and a number of potential scenarios to deal with in the event of an incident the dive team had to be dressed in and ready to act for the duration of the race.  The nature of the vessel, its layout, composite structure, componetry and the speed in which it was traveling at created the potential for a catastrophic incident in the event of a breakage, wind shift or impact.
RISK RATING High Risk
OUTCOME Project completed without incident and record achieved
