50′ YACHT TRANSFORMATION PROJECT

PROJECT BRIEF	To transform this 2006 50′ performance cruising yacht back to her former glory ready for brokerage.
RESPONSIBILITIES	Director of Operations \| Project Manager \| Quality Control. I was responsible for the creating the initial work breakdown structure (WBS), appointing all specialists including surveyors, shipwrights, sailmakers, yard hands, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, safety equipment servicing, brokers and riggers. Co-ordinating all works from inception to completion with all final detailing including teak restoration, prop burnishing and grp/paintwork polishing carried out myself. I managed all costs on behalf of the owner. The overall objective was to protect the owners investment so that he could sell the yacht and purchase another.

CHALLENGES	Working outside in the Spring presents challenges whether it is controlling moisture content or low temperatures. With works taken in the confines of a large boatyard there are always other works in progress on neighbouring vessels which can hamper the project and often cause setbacks especially those being blasted, jet washed or sanded. Due to the size of this vessel she has a designated cradle which is in constant demand therefore timing is critical and there is absolutely no room for manoeuvrability with regards to launch day, therefore works are constantly scheduled in accordance with the weather, the surrounding conditions and subcontractors commitments with my final finishing works being co-ordinated around everything else. A systematic process is essential although flexibility is key. Managing this flexibility and timing is often critical to the project outcome and one that I have become fully accustomed to other the years with all projects running to schedule and quality never being compromised. Service excellence is key with the principle objective to exceed expectation
